Orthodontic Treatment Results

Every smile is unique, and orthodontic treatment is customized to address each patient’s specific needs. Below are examples of common orthodontic conditions and how treatment helped improve dental function, comfort, and confidence.

Crowding of the Teeth

This patient began orthodontic treatment at age eleven and wore braces for twenty six months. Treatment corrected dental crowding, improved alignment, and created a healthy, balanced smile. The patient was thrilled with his results and his new smile.

Open Bite

An open bite occurs when the front teeth do not touch when the mouth is closed.

This patient had a thumb sucking habit as a young child, which contributed to her open bite. She began orthodontic treatment at age thirteen and wore braces along with a special appliance called a crib to help retrain the tongue. After twenty eight months of treatment, her bite was corrected, allowing her to comfortably bite into foods such as lettuce and sandwiches.

Deep Overbite

A deep overbite occurs when the lower front teeth bite into the palate.

This adult patient began treatment at age twenty five and required braces along with jaw surgery to correct a severe overbite. Treatment lasted approximately two years. This case highlights the importance of early orthodontic care, as the condition could likely have been corrected without surgery if treatment had begun before the teenage years.

Missing Lateral Incisors

Some patients are born without certain teeth, a condition known as congenital absence.

This patient was missing her lateral incisors. She underwent orthodontic treatment for twenty months to move the surrounding teeth into proper positions. After orthodontic treatment, the missing teeth were replaced with bonded Maryland bridges, restoring both function and appearance.

Underbite

An underbite occurs when the lower front teeth extend in front of the upper front teeth.

This patient’s underbite caused jaw joint discomfort and excessive wear on her teeth. She began orthodontic treatment at age thirty two and completed approximately thirty months of treatment. After treatment, she reported improved comfort with chewing and greater confidence when smiling.

Spacing of the Teeth

Spacing issues occur when gaps form between teeth.

This patient was concerned about the spaces between his teeth. Orthodontic treatment closed the spaces and created an ideal bite in twenty four months. Special bonded retainers were used to help maintain the results and keep the spaces closed.

Overjet

An overjet occurs when the upper front teeth protrude significantly beyond the lower front teeth.

At age ten, this patient had a pronounced overjet. She underwent two phases of orthodontic treatment. The first phase guided jaw growth to improve facial balance, while the second phase aligned the teeth and bite. By age thirteen, she had completed treatment and was proudly showing her new smile.

Phase One Orthodontic Treatment

This patient’s parents sought orthodontic care at age eight due to concerns about aesthetics and the health of the erupting permanent teeth. The lower front teeth were crowded and contacting the palate, and the upper front teeth were significantly displaced.

After twelve months of Phase One treatment using a palatal expander and partial braces, the patient’s dental function and appearance were greatly improved, setting the foundation for a healthier smile as permanent teeth continued to erupt.
